About the Artist
I am an early 30's professional female working in the mental health field in Vancouver BC, Canada however I am originally from Manitoba Canada. I had first started painting briefly in art class while attending high school in 2002 but started painting as a hobby while working graveyard shifts during December of 2016. Although my first few were landscapes I quickly realized that I wasn't comfortable doing these or happy with the results. As I am what most would call a "Metal Head" or "Rocker Chick" because of my love of these genres of music it's not surprising that I love and am intrigued by skulls (both human and animal) so I quickly have developed my skill (self taught) as well as finer detailing and depth as I try to add a more feminine outlook to death and it's hidden beauty. By adding "inspirational" quotes to some, I've tried to show that death doesn't necessarily have to be seen as strictly negative, final and without humor.
I have recently been going outside my comfort level and working on animal pieces which stemmed from doing a memorial painting for my mom of our recently deceased family dog Riley who sadly left us New Years Eve 2018. She loved it so much that I created pieces for both present and other past beloved pets I've had since childhood and found it was a great comfort for me to have something physical to remember them by so I am now offering to do these by request for others.
